Sun, 18 May 2008 17:01:23 PDT
Only poor people lose their homes to foreclosure, right? From coast to coast, the rich - and now the ultra rich - are drowning in debt too. Already, some trophy properties have been swept away in the foreclosure tsunami.

News Analysis. Grab the popcorn. Like the fourth Indiana Jones movie, the Microhoo drama has another sequel. This afternoon, Microsoft issued a statement indicating that a new—and perhaps even different—Yahoo deal is in the works. The statement comes three days after billionaire business buster Carl Icahn launched a proxy fight...
‘Blog’ Ado about nothing

They don’t leave any stone unturned to get publicity, do they? Page 3 on print, night life shows and stupid reality shows on TV, and now they have the new media too! Blogging is the next best way to gain media attention, especially IBN’s attention. Not only is IBN making as much noise possible about their own ‘IBN Blogs’, but, thanks to the wannabe socialites, they are getting enough celeb blogs controversies to keep their TRPs going. All the blogging publicity started off as a western cult
Kevin Johnson’s Memo on Yahoo & Their Strategy
Sun, 18 May 2008 18:46:37 PDT
Kevin Johnson, the president of Microsoft’s platforms and services division, sent out this memo to company employees in which he outlines the Microsoft’s strategy in online advertising. He also refers to the press statement issued in reference to Yahoo. The company is sending mixed messages, both to the outside world and its employees. You can read the memo (below the fold) and decode it for yourself :-) We have been executing against the core strategy I first presented at our Financial Analys
Star Choice is too good for RDI
Fri, 16 May 2008 23:08:39 PDT
The CBC is complaining to the CRTC because Canadian satellite TV provider Star Choice does not include francophone all-news channel RDI as part of its basic lineup. The problem is that the CRTC mandates that RDI be included in all cable and satellite basic lineups, as it does for channels like CPAC, Newsworld and The Weather Network. Rick Poynor, in a beautifully honest article for ID Magazine (“Down with Innovation”), takes the “design thinkers,” the “innovators through design,” or the “design-ovators,” as he calls them, head on: “Design thinkers set great store by business targets, by driving the enterprise forward, because it is exactly what their clients want to hear and it gets them work. Seen from outside the cozy bond of service provider and client, this is a severely limited way of viewing design,
Podcast with an ELT recruiter
Sun, 18 May 2008 20:12:01 PDT
Joe of Zenkimchi has produced a podcast interviewing a recruiter for language schools in Korea. Recruiters generally have a vile reputation here in Korea so I’m sure this will be an interesting podcast. At 158 minutes it is rather long. Anyhow I haven’t listened to it yet, though it is queued up for my subway ride later today. This week we have one of those evil recruiters, Rowan Hall, from ESL-Planet Recruiting. He actually has a lot of background info on the current trends in the Korean
